According to forecasters, the 2016 summer season is going to be a hot one for television fans and fanatics.  There are plenty of shows that warrant escaping the humid, warm months and provide a good excuse to stay in, crank up the air conditioning and soak up summertime TV offerings. 1. Person of Interest. The storyline seemed simple enough when this spellbinding program began… a presumed-dead ex-CIA agent and a billionaire software genius tries to stop crimes before they happen. But now that the series is nearing its completion, the complexity of the story has multiplied.

So quick….flip on this last season for this ever-cool and compelling series. In a sneak-peak into the series’ last episodes, the writers pick up the story in real time. The heroes of Person of Interest appear to face a rough uphill battle:

• The Machine has been compressed into a briefcase with her life hanging in the balance

• Samaritan is stronger than ever

• Detective Fusco can’t keep himself out of the crosshairs.

Still, Finch, Reese and Root may be able to end the war between the artificial super intelligent (ASI). After all, once you have created an all-knowing, all-seeing artificial super intelligence, it’s not an easy opponent to defeat.

2. Preacher. Powerhouse star Seth Rogen helped adapt this cult comic-book series for television. The plot depicts a ruthless small-town Texas priest who, after being inhabited by an unknown entity that gives him supernatural powers, begins his quest to literally find God. His badass ex-girlfriend and an Irish vampire accompany him on what should be one heck of a spiritual journey.

3. Peaky Blinders. This virtually unknown adventure is said to be the one of the best shows the public is missing out on watching.  It features the character of Tommy Shelby, the leader of a street gang in post-WWI England.

Season three has now arrived and continues to center around working class gangs in Birmingham, England in the early 1900s. Available on Netflix, this drama has a gritty appeal and is based on true stories of a gang who stitched razor blades into their caps as concealed weapons. Critics have fallen in love with this series and you likely will too.

4. Bloodline. The second season of this unmissable thriller returns to the scene of the crime. Reunited in the Florida Keys, the critically-acclaimed cast members will have you on the edge of your seat for the next thrilling installment of this must-see series.

5. Mr. Robot. Appealing to a wide audience (not just computer science “geeks”) the second season deals with the aftermath of the group’s hack on ECorp, and the FBI are called in to investigate, of course.

Other returning favorites during the heat of summer include Orange is the New Black and UnReal. They will be joined by some other new programming offerings such as Vice Principals and Animal Kingdom. Whether you reach for your remote or stream shows on your laptop, there are dozens of choices this summer.
